Block 5

This study gathers extensive archival research—including original architectural drawings of Block 5 and professional periodical literature—and fieldwork to understand Block 5 not merely as a product of architectural and urban design, but as a living environment shaped by social dynamics. Here, while the site is essentially permanent, all other constructed elements possess a finite service life, with a wide range of durability: the structure is estimated to last 30 to 300 years, while the exterior skin may persist for 20 years or more; internal services and systems have shorter spans, typically 7-20 years and 10-15 years. The interiors, including partitions and furnishings, are (potentially) the most ephemeral layer.
